Dawn Forde Arno was the founding Director of the Reading and Math Buddy Programs at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York. She created a School-University-Community Partnership, TC EdZone in 2004 to provide a comprehensive and institutional response to support the improvement of public schools in Harlem, New York. The Reading & Math Buddies were the Big Buddies –graduate students who worked individually with struggling learners for 30 minutes every morning for an academic year.
The Big Buddies were catalysts for creating institutional change in schools in which they worked. They were key to the creation of new knowledge about teaching and learning. This new knowledge contributed to leadership development & organizational learning, necessary factors for improving low performing schools.
Dr. Arno has a doctorate in Educational Administration from Teachers College, Columbia University, and the M.B.A from the Columbia University School of Business. She is an expert in pubic school finance, management of organizations, organizational development and organizational learning. Dr. Arno provides the unique combination of connoisseurial expertise, knowledge and experience needed to successfully navigate and implement change in complex organizational systems.
